The Doggerel
On Penhill Crags he tore his rags
Hunters Thorn he blew his horn
Cappelbank Stee happened a misfortune and brak' his knee
Grassgill Beck he brak' his neck
Wadhams End he couldn't fend
Grassgill End we'll mak' his end
Shout, lads, shout!

Burning Bartle - Where to Stay
There are a number of B&B houses in West Witton (see 'Associated Sites', left) and many self-catering premises. The West Witton site now has a whole section devoted to Dales accommodation. The Chantry Caravan Park has static holiday homes and also accepts touring caravans, but no tents.
However, please note that the Burning of Bartle takes place on the weekend of the Witton Fell Race and the Witton Feast, popular events which bring a lot of visitors to the village over the entire weekend. We therefore recommend booking early if you want to stay in the village itself.
If you can't get into the village itself, don't panic, there are plenty of other places to stay nearby and we're sure you'll get in somewhere! Just try searching Google with the keywords 'west witton' or 'wensleydale'.
